We have several Murder Mystery scenarios to chose from, all are customized to the event. I have given you a detailed explanation of A STAR IS TORN which works great for Corporate events.
A Star is Torn
We'll provide 7 actors and 1 stage manager. We'll be there 2 hours before the event begins. We will need a room where we can leave our change of clothes, makeup, props, etc. We will also use that room during the performance as our "dead body" room.
Two of our actors will be in the room disguised as a waiter and waitress as the guests arrive.
Scattered around the room are flyers announcing tonight's entertainment, Lydia Parker. As more guests arrive we will send in more actors as various characters. They will mingle, chat, everything in the beginning is very low key. There will be little things that go on; an argument here overheard by a few guests, an exchange over there that a few guests will notice. Are these real or are they set up?
Once all of the guests have arrived, Lydia Parker and her entourage will enter. She is quite flamboyant and quite a favorite with the corporate crowd. She signs autographs, chats, etc. Just before the meal is to begin, Lydia will make an announcement that she would like to say a few thank you's to some of the guests, occupations, hobbies, idiosyncrasies, etc. While Lydia is thanking the chosen guests and everyone is watching, one of the actors will be shot, right there in the room, by an unknown assailant. At this point, the detective will take over and divide the guests into teams, normally each dinner table being a team. Each person on each team will be given a clue book in which they can write down suspects and clues. There will be physical clues, verbal clues, fist fights, cat fights, lots of action. One of the items is a date book found on the deceased. In the date book are entries about some of the guests. This is another place where we can use information about the guests. The actors need to be able to sit with and eat with the guests. There is no stage area. Guests and actors should be treated equally to help create the immediacy and realism. We want the guests to feel comfortable with each other and the actors, and really feel a part of the event. Actors may be seated at any table, and if it is assigned seating, should not be seated together.
During the main course Lydia will sing a medley. It is usually easier for the site to provide a piano although we can provide a keyboard if necessary (we do provide the pianist). We normally use a microphone provided by the site. After Lydia sings, another actor will die. There will be more clues, accusations, etc. The guests are free at any time to question anyone they feel is suspicious, look at the clues, etc.
Once dessert has been placed, all of the clues will have been revealed and the detective will announce that he knows who the murderer is. We will hand out 1 ballot to each team and each team will have to decide on their choice for the murderer plus the clues that led them to their conclusion. After all of the ballots have been collected, the detective will explain exactly what happened. The murderer will confess and try to escape. At this point, we can kill one of the guests. It is an option and totally up to the client. That guest would have to arrive for a few minutes before the beginning of the event to rehearse and will, of course, know who the murderer is. The detective arrests the murderer and exits. We introduce the actors and read the ballot of the team that came closest to the actual solution. Prizes are usually given to each of the winning team members. The prizes may be provided by the host or we can provide "Super Sleuth" trophies.
We require that all guests know that they are coming to a Murder Mystery. This makes them suspicious of everything and everyone from the beginning and no one is alarmed when shots are fired.
The event lasts approximately 3 hours. The Murder Mystery is customized for the event. We will incorporate as much information about the event, the client and the guests as possible. These Murder Mysteries are very interactive and let the guests by themselves or whoever they want to be. There is no "prep" for the guests. The events unfold naturally; it's up to the guests to determine what is important.
